Things to Do

Hot August Nights has been an annual highlight in Reno since 1986. Running for five days in early August, Hot August Nights is a major celebration of vintage cars and rock and roll culture. Events take place across Reno and in neighboring Sparks and Virginia City. Signature events include a parade of classic cars manufactured before the 1970s plus a packed lineup of live entertainment on indoor and outdoor stages at numerous Reno casinos and resorts.

In September, the Great Reno Balloon Race sees scores of hot air balloons take off from Rancho San Rafael Regional Park and race through the sky. Around 140,000 spectators line Reno’s streets during the Great Reno Balloon Race’s three days of festivities. Many of these spectators roll straight out of bed to join the Balloon Race’s Bed Head contest and Pajama Party. Street Vibrations is a twice-annual motorcycle rally taking place in spring and fall. Both events feature lots of live entertainment, motorcycle stunts, and scores of vendors. The Street Vibrations Fall Rally is the larger of the two rallies and one of the world’s biggest motorcycling gatherings.

The striking gold-domed Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts hosts many more events throughout the year. The Pioneer Center’s schedule includes touring Broadway shows, comedy performances, symphony orchestra concerts, and ballet.
